11. Setting up DHCP Server

One of the very important requirements in creating a VDI Desktop Pool along with AD+DNS Server is DHCP server which would help in assigning dynamic IP to the desktops.

In this blog let us have a look at how we create DHCP server and activate the scope for set of IP address to be released while provisioning the desktops

Since it is lab environment i am using the same DC+DNS server for my DHCP server as well.

  • Install DHCP Server role from Server Manager as below

  • Once the Role is installed, you should see a warning symbol which will give you the console to activate DHCP Server.

  • Click on Complete DHCP Configuration and do the below steps to complete configuration

  • Open administrative tools to check if DHCP is installed properly and open the console

  • Right Click on IPV4 and click on new scope
  • Give a name to the scope

  • Input the start and end IP address to define/block the IP address within the pool for your desktops

  • Add exclusions if any , in our case we dont have any exclusions

  • Define the number of lease days, by default it is 8 days in our case i named them to be 365 days

  • Click next and select default options, as in below image make sure your DNS server is listed and click next

  • Click next and activate your scope

  • Once it is properly installed you should be able to see your scope activated and secure IP address pool is displayed

With this we complete the configuration of desktops. In our next blog lets have a look at how we create our first Windows 10 desktop Pool.
