9. Checking replication status between Connection Server and our Replica Server

As discussed in our last blog Connection and composer server replication is very important to make sure of the high availability of desktop connection and no service interruption to end users.

In production environment, both the connection server and replica servers IP are load balanced. We are very much aware of F5 , Kemp, AVI etc with which we can load balance the IP and give the end users either an load balanced IP or an FQDN of the load balanced IP to connect so that they would connect to one of the connection servers during peak performance or during server maintenance with zero interruption to services.

However load balancing cannot really be applied in Lab, but if everything permits we will try to install free version of any load balancer and check if we can load balance our connection server.

Before anything we have to make sure connection servers are replicating properly without any issues which can be determined through below 2 process.

1. There will be errors on the connection server console that one of the connection servers service is not working properly. But in our case there are no errors or warning and replication seems to be working fine.

In the below picture we can notice that service status is normal and marked Green

2. Second way is to login to both connection and replica server and run below command to make sure replication is working as expected.

Output from Connection Server :

Command : repadmin.exe /showrepl localhost:389 DC=vdi,DC=vmware,DC=int

Below is the update from replica server where we can see the roles being exchanged

Now that the output on both connection Server and replica server are successful we can conclude that replication is working as expected

Let us talk about creating master image to getting started with creating pools and desktops to end users in our next blog
