8. VMware Replica Server installation and configuration

As we discussed in our last blog, Connection server being the utmost important component of the Horizon, we cannot afford to loose connection server, in worst case scenarios or when the connection server has to go down for upgrades replica server will make sure end users are able to connect without any service interruption. With replica server we can load balance the incoming requests to the connection servers. They act as load balances for end user desktops.

Similar to our connection server, configuration for replica server is also the same

VM specifications to install Horizon Connection Server :

OS            Windows Server 2016 and above (Recommended)

vCPU         2 for Lab and 4 for Production environment

Memory -     4GB for Lab and 11GB for Production environment

HDD          90GB for Lab and 150 or more for Production environment

Make sure to add DNS record, add the VM to domain and login to VM using an domain account to begin installation.

We are going with below version of Connection Server which is 2011

"VMware-Horizon-Connection-Server-x86_64-8.3.0-18294467"

Once logged into the server, run the installer and choose as below

  • Make sure to select replica server and allow HTML access

  • Input the connection server FQDN to make sure the connection is established and sync is started between both the connection servers.
  • Choose firewall rules to be configured automatically

Once the replica server is installed, you will be able to see replica server added under connection servers list

Now that we have our initial configuration ready let us create windows 10 master image, install required applications and create pools and desktops for testing
